baked yam fries

yam fries recipe

Yams are one of my little boys favourite foods. (Mine, too!) Not surprising, really. They’re sweet and soft and just generally delicious.

They’re also cheap and easy to prepare.

Please don’t buy expensive pre-packaged yam fries. You’ll pay at least four times as much and you won’t know what’s in them. Save your money. Make your own.

This recipe is great for little ones because they don’t get too crunchy, which seems to trip up my munchkin. (We’re still working on the whole concept of chewing our food.)

Baked Yam Fries Method:

1 large yam will feed a couple of greedy people or one mum and one growing boy.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Slice your yam into 1 cm fat fries. Peel it, don’t peel it. Up to you.

Toss lightly in your favourite healthy oil.

Sprinkle with a generous dusting of salt and pepper and your choice of seasoning combos. (See below for some suggestions.)

Pop in the hot oven. Stir about after 5 minutes or so. Bake for about 10 minutes or until yams are soft and toasty-looking.

Pig out.

Seasoning Combos for Homemade Baked Yam Fries

{ Sweet & Smoky } Garlic powder, smoked paprika, honey, lime juice

{ Southwestern } Garlic powder, chilli powder & cumin

{ Herby } Garlic powder, finely minced rosemary, sage, thyme & oregano
